TUBE LEAKAGES IN HEAT EXCHANGER BUNDLES ?

Heat Exchangers usually have a long life cycle. But, over time, wear, fouling and rust can cause tube leakages within the heat exchanger bundle.

 

That leads to a reduction in the heat exchanger’s efficiency and therefore a loss in performance. Furthermore, the overall efficiency of the plant is reduced too if the heat exchanger is not running at 100 %.

K°NOW HOW TO SOLVE IT !

To regain the 100 % performance of the heat exchanger, the following measurements are usually carried out:

  • Plugging - stops the water flow

  • Retubing - replaces the complete tube

  • Bundle exchange - replaces the complete bundle

 

In addition, we can offer another method which is called CTI technology.

Why replace the entire tube when only the first 20-30 cm are worn?

The CTI technology uses the existing bundle and acts in a similar way to a patch on a bicycle tire.

Two different approaches can be applied and either be applied directly as an on-site repair or in our workshop during an upgrade:

CTI SHIELD / SEALS™

Shield/Seals repair damaged and/or leaking tube ends and prevent unnecessary re-tubing or plugging.

They are also commonly installed in new heat exchanger tubes to prevent damage that can lead to leaking/plugged tubes. Shield/Seals can repair/restore tubes suffering from corrosion.

The installation is done by using two methods:

  • Mechanical expansion

  • CTI’s full length hybrid expansion

FULL LENGTH TUBE LINERS

Full length tube liners are designed to restore tubes that are suffering from isolated or full-length corrosion (pitting, cracking).

Leaking or damaged tubes requiring plugging are returned to service.

Liners are less prone to fouling and have a higher efficiency than plain carbon steel tubes. Tube Liners are designed to increase the heat exchanger’s reliability and extend its service life expectancy.

Eliminating tube leaks in between turnarounds and avoiding emergency shutdowns to plug offer proven cost savings benefits.

 

What you get is a fully functional heat exchanger with the highest efficiency and extended lifetime.

EFFECTS ON YOUR PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE

Tube leakages in the heat exchanger bundle, caused by fouling and rust, will prevent the unit from running at 100%, affecting the profitability of the application and lowering the lifespan of the heat exchanger.

With our regular service, the chances of the heat exchanger failing and causing costly downtime, can be avoided.

Using innovative CTI technology, it is possible to repair the damaged tube rather than replace the whole bundle.

By preventing premature failure the long life cycle curve is assured...

As a result, the technical service life of a product is increased, fewer new products will therefore have to be produced overall in order to provide a required function on a permanent basis. This saves not only money, but also decreases both the material and the energy consumption for a sustainable business.
