FAN STALLING OF A HEAT EXCHANGER ?
Heat exchanger fans, such as those on air fin coolers or air-cooled condensers, can stall. This is caused by a number of factors, including incorrect fan blade settings and external fouling of the bundles. Stalling decreases the efficiency of the whole unit and reduces the potential production output.
This gives a visual representation of the airflow and its direction, clearly identifying the fans that have either stalled or that have bundles that need an external cleaning. The sooner problem fans are dealt with, the better for the efficient running of the unit.

K°NOW HOW TO SOLVE IT !
During a walk-through of the plant an operator or Kelvion Expert can look to see how the fans are operating, using a glove held at the fan guard.
For a forced draft unit, the glove should be sticking to the guard, if it is flapping then there is air that is recirculating, and the fan has potentially stalled. For induced draft the glove should be flapping away from the guard as the air flows in an upwards direction.
If it is against the guard, this indicates that there is a recirculation at this point.
KELVIONS AUDIT PROGRAM
Causes of fan stalling can be very different. For example, there can be flaws in the design, or heat exchanger bundles are fouled, or fan settings are not correct, and must be adjusted.
When Kelvion Experts are on your site for a visit they can check quickly if the fan is stalling. This can be used to scope a site-based survey, which helps to identify units that would need to be examined later with a complete audit.

No matter what the result of the audit shows, Kelvion will help you with the right Services to get your heat exchangers performance to 100% again.
We can offer every service which is necessary and be present at your site during the whole process.
EFFECTS ON YOUR PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE
Fan stalling has a detrimental effect on a heat exchanger’s performance and, thus the application it is being used for. Also the life cycle curve of the heat exchanger, which normally lasts for many years, can be severely shortened.
As part of our regular service, we can test for stalling and take the appropriate measures that will keep the heat exchanger operating reliably and efficiently.
As a result, the heat exchanger will provide an optimum service for many more years.
Contribution to the environment
As a result, the technical service life of a product is increased, fewer new products will therefore have to be produced overall in order to provide a required function on a permanent basis. This saves not only money, but also decreases both the material and the energy consumption for a sustainable business.
